Name: Vea Yvette-Hye
Nickname: Eldorado
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weight: 121 lb.
Height: 5'4''
Hair: Vea possesses black hair with highlights of varying hues of red and brown, as well as a small, magic-induced streak of a foamy green hue near her left ear. She often ties her hair behind colorful scarves/headbands or braids it with strings of clinking glass beads. About a foot and a half in length from her scalp, it brushes the small of her back; its original hue had no such highlights but was a simple jet black except for the solitary streak of light green. It frames her face, parted to either side, and is naturally straight. When she is practicing her magic, studying or visiting her family, Miss Yvette-Hye simply ties it back or braids it into one long trail instead of the aforementioned style.
Eyes: Vea's left iris is a light shade of foam, somewhat translucent. Her eyes are slanted like an Asian girl's would be; and her chocolate brown right iris is a different shade than her left because of an accident with her magic as a young child (at the time, Vea had been trying to turn her favorite plushie's hair aquamarine - she ended up with an iris hued sea foam green and a solitary streak in her hair of the same color). Her eyes were originally both brown.
Clothing Preference: Vea prefers t-shirts with logos, words, or emblems on them coupled with a mixture of skirts and varying pants. She looks best in colors that match her usually quite wild hair, like tan and burgundy. Since she's thin for her age, she can look good in almost everything so long as she wears it 'the right way'. Her jewelry usually consists of brass-like dangle earrings, a necklace or two looped several times over either wrist and two more small ear cartilage studs in addition to her ear lobe piercings. Her tendency to wear more than a few pieces of jewelry has earned her nickname, 'Eldorado', due to the legend of a city of gold and wealth. Miss Yvette-Hye steers away from belly button piercings or nose piercings, however. She wears scuffed tennis shoes, and colorful ankle socks. Her fingernails are not painted, due to the fact they're stubby and have been constantly bitten by the teenager. Two of the three watches she wears on her left wrist are broken. The other is five minutes early and portrays Tinker Bell on a blue background and blue and silver straps.
Personality: She smiles easily, but her solemn attitude at times can be a powerful thing on its own; sarcastic or just plain stupid comments often escape her lips, however, and only her closest friends know it to be simply because Vea often doesn't think before she acts. She can very ambitious or passionate about what is on her mind, which can sometimes seem very scary indeed. That has made her a few enemies, but not so many that an abundant amount of people despise her. However, the teenager is a very devoted grudge-holder; these enemies only feed that particular trait of Eldorado. She sometimes gambles senselessly, is usually late and sprouts small scale-like ridges on her wrists when she is annoyed. Vea, being who she is, thinks they're cool. Her loyalty, when earned correctly, can be undying - as can her spite. Vea hates heights. She is also minorly claustrophobic. Vea is thinking about becoming Gothic, but will most likely decide against it because she doesn't like nature as much as those like her deceased grandpa Warner Hye and her uncle Will Hye do/did. Her dream is to become a web designer or artist. She likes computers, and Miss Yvette-Hye is also very magpie-like in that she likes jewelry and shiny things. Vea is very high maintenance and a perfectionist at times; she can be very haughty when she takes a mind and has excellent intuition. Vea can speak Italian, French (she learned this from Antoinette Yvette) and Spanish in addition to English. She sometimes swears in Italian. Eldorado has an odd habit of calling others names such as love, dear and darling.
Abilities: Miss Yvette-Hye is of mixed blood. Her mother is half siren, and Vea herself is a quarter siren. Vea is a clarevoyant who possesses prophetic, telepathic and telekinetic abilities, as well as a few having to do with the Water Element. Her telekinetic abilities are decidedly more powerful than her telepathic and prophetic. At age six, she could manuever her bedsheets and make her bed if Astyr focuses her power for her. Eldorado has never made a real prophecy, but she has managed to predict the outcome of a situation accurately four times in her entire life. This doesn't make her a real sybil, since her diluted siren blood ensures that she can't make prophecies according to her siren grandmother Artanis. She can't really use her telepathic abilities either, but when she's angry she can make other people hear what she's thinking and sometimes vice versa. The control over her abilities with water work pretty much the same way as her telepathic, but Vea can manage to control and harness it most of the time. Not surprisingly, she instinctively dislikes merpeople, nymphs and naiads.
Family:
[/li][li] Nathaniel Yvette-Hye - A red-headed music store manager, Nathaniel is very clumsy. He is 38 years old, despite the fact he acts as if he were Vea's age and looks as if he were ten years older. He dyes his hair. He is a source for the family income and works five days a week at his small store called "Rawk Starz' Haven." He is 5'8'', is 160 lb and is allergic to cashews and peanuts. He hates can openers and cats for the simple reason that he can't understand them. He has made several attempts to become vegetarian but finds he can't resist Astyr's beef rolls. He likes yard sales and being called 'Nachos' by his wife. He is the oldest of two kids and thinks his little sister is pure evil because she won't let him live down the time he fell off the garage roof while trying to get their cat Commodore Fluffypuss (named by Eli herself) off of the beech tree next to their "wee house in the boonies".
[/li][li] Astyr Yvette-Hye - Vea inheritted her black hair from her mother, Astyr, who is part siren. Astyr's maiden name was Hye. Her middle name is Nettle. She has no allergies, and is a very skilled cook. Her part-time job is at a high class restaurant, "Celestial Tales", as a cook. She's working part-time because she's trying to finish college online; Garter and Vea were born to her at 20 and she dropped out of school to take care of them. She's 36, is vain and therefore does not wear glasses even though she needs them. Her least favorite color is green, her most favorite rose pink. Astyr makes killer beef rolls, to which her brothers, spinster sister, husband and kids are all addicted to.
[/li][li] Garter Yvette-Hye - Garter is Vea's twin brother. He is the older of the two and takes after Nathaniel, whereas Vea takes more after both of her parents instead of merely one. He's shorter than Vea at 5'3'', making most people think that he is the younger of the two. That annoys him more than cats; he's allergic to cats, and gets rashes when he eats peanuts. He likes the color purple, and thinks Britney Spears is a fraud. Garter is homosexual and likes to crack perverted jokes. He doesn't attend Rynosis and is trying to get together a professional rock band with his friends and cousins Samuel, Yvonne and Tom. Will Hye, their uncle, is trying to convince the four that he'd make a good manager for them. He hasn't managed it yet.
[/li][li] Will Hye - Will Hye is the younger brother of Astyr Yvette-Hye. He gets along well with Nathaniel, and also loves Astyr's beef rolls. He works as a photographer in San Francisco, and rarely comes to visit. He has dusky black locks and is short at 5'3''. He is unmarried, and can sometimes come across as stupid and immature. His girlfriend is Eve Parme. They haven't married yet, but they're engaged. Will has memorized the statistics for almost every famous baseball player possible and is always willing to state them. He's trying to learn the saxophone but doesn't have much spare time in which to do so. He thinks emo is overrated. Like his brother Tim, he has dairy allergies. He takes after his dead father, Warner Hye, in that he loves nature.
[/li][li] Tim Hye - Tim Hye is the oldest of four, brother to Astyr and uncle to Vea and Garter. He's a businessman who owns a chain of gift shops along the Greek coast and works in real estate. He's the richest and possibly the most boring of the aforementioned quartet. He has a summer villa in Italy and a small but cozy cabin in Canada for the colder seasons. He's married to Astarte Hye, formerly known as Astarte Levanters. He wears glasses, can't understand why Astyr doesn't like them and is thinking of starting a lock collection. He, like the rest of his siblings, loves Astyr's beef rolls and has a dairy allergy.
[/li][li] Irina Hye - Irina is the youngest of four and is unmarried. She claims to be a hippie but is against drugs and has a strange code of ethics. She prides herself on her arrest record but refuses to go against rules on the theater. She loves romance movies and Shakespeare. She hates cell phones and likes shiny things like her niece Vea. Her short hair is highlighted purple against her slightly greying black locks. She's considered the craziest of the four as well as Vea's favorite aunt. Irina runs a small antique shop in Macarada and frequently gives Vea old-fashioned jewelry for her 'collection'.
[/li][li] Astarte Hye - Astarte Hye is the wife of Tim Hye, and lovingly known as Sunny by her niece and nephew after the youngest Baudelaire child in the book series. Her maiden name was Levanters and she is the owner of a flower shop in Italy called "Spangled Frittilary Bloomes" after her favorite butterfly. Most of her new in-laws are amazed she got hooked up with Tim instead of someone like Will. Still, she loves her husband and wouldn't trade him for anyone else. She is a former acrobat, but is getting on in her days and can barely manage a handstand much less a whole routine composed of cartwheels, flips and somersaults. If anyone asks, Astarte usually answers, "My poor heart wouldn't be able to take it, dear. I'm getting old, and being old's no fun." Another thing is is that she's always very optimistic and likes calling people, even strangers, "dear." She calls her husband "lambikins." Will refuses to let Tim forget it.
[/li][li] Yvonne Delving - The second oldest of three triplets, Yvonne is the only girl in the family besides her mother, Eli Delving. She is a tomboy, however, and takes after Eli in a most disturbing way. Dubbed the most troublesome of the three, she is the keyboard and back-up vocals in the four-member band. Samuel, known more commonly as Sammie, is the lead and guiltarist. She plays baseball, softball and soccer. She has short dusty brown hair with light blonde highlights, and is in need of braces. She's thinking about abandoning baseball and getting onto the track team at her high school. She does not attend Rynosis.
[/li][li] Samuel Delving - Sammie, as he is more commonly known, can play electric guitar and is the lead singer in their small band, Novelty SplicK. He has darker hair than his sister and is a fan of Fall Out Boy. He is on his high school track team and is the oldest of the three. He sometimes bites his nails, loves chocolate and is allergic to peanuts and cheese. He is also on his school band as a trumpeteer. He was the one who came up with the band name Novelty SplicK. Vea thinks he's annoying because he's so vain and is even more high maintenance than she is. He has a tattoo of a skull on his left shoulder and is right-handed.
[/li][li] Tom Delving - Tom is the youngest of the three and a freshman in high school. He is one year younger than Vea and the favorite of the three. Vea prefers Yvonne to Tom, but they share a love for old stuff, including jewelry. He is surprisingly feminine and is homosexual. He has lighter hair than either of his siblings and is also the most friendly. He plays drums and handles the band equipment. Tom is very good with technology and wants to become not only a part of Novelty SplicK when they become famous but a technician or a mechanic as well. He has his own motorcycle and a habit of ruffling his hair when he's confused.
[/li][li] Eve Parme - Eve is the boyfriend and soon-to-be wife of Will Hye. She has strawberry blonde hair and freckles, with brown eyes. She is an amateur gymnast and wants to enter in the Olympics someday. Her childhood nickname was Sparky, due to her love of fireworks and fire overall. She went to Rynosis and lives in San Francisco. She is easily scared and for that reason hates Halloween and April Fool's Day. She is afraid of heights, blood and death. She claims she was born in a circus but most people don't believe her except her boyfriend, Will. She makes good tacos. Eve's middle name is Isleton.
[/li][li] Brandon Yvette - Brandon is the father of Nathaniel and was an only child. He is married to Antoinette Yvette, hates most animals and is a retired journalist. He doesn't get along with his family and has Life Support. He owns two goldfish and lives in Florida with his wife. He has grey hair that he wants to dye black, brown eyes and thinks computers are the scourge of the modern world.
[/li][li] Antoinette Yvette - Antoinette has a slight French accent and can speak French fluently, as well as Spanish, Italian, English and Portugeuse. She has dark brown hair with a great deal of grey in it and is an amateur jeweler. She loves Oreos, chocolate and artists such as Da Vinci and Michelangelo (sp?). She is half deaf and wears a hearing aid, practices in a lot of charity walks and disapproves of her son Nathaniel's music store. She does, however, think Astyr is very special and wonderful. Antoinette is of French origin and has arthritis. She thinks that she's special because she's named after Marie Antoinette.
[/li][li] Artanis Hye - A pure-blood siren, Artanis is only in her middle years by siren reckoning at 57 years old. She has silver-blonde hair, and radiates a grace and benevolence that comes from the fact sirens are considered mythical, nonexistant creatures. She has scales, but no tail and was once an acolyte in the Temple of Alaris, therefore bearing her mark of the coral staff and circle of pearls. However, she is very short at 5'2''.
[/li][li] Eli Delving - Eli Delving is the younger and only sibling of Nathaniel. She is very charismatic and outgoing, a professional soccer player that is training her daughter to one day follow in her footsteps. She is married to Luke Delving, her maiden name being Yvette and her middle name being Blanche. She is very flexible and loves marathons. Vea likes her, but thinks she's a bit too pushy and zany. Still, Eli has excellent taste and works part-time in Willow's Armory. She has auburn hair and brown eyes, with a tattoo of a serpent on her right hip. She is right-handed and has had her ears pierced five times. She hates fake nails and the color pink.
[/li][li] Luke Delving - Luke has a few drops of Elf blood, inheritted from his great-great grandmother. Vea and Garter don't know him very well, but he works at a restaurant somewhere in the next town over part-time and is also an amateur web designer. He has light blonde hair, a beak-like nose and German ancestors.
History: Miss Yvette-Hye was born in the city of many names, including the Big Apple, NYC and Gotham on September 2nd to Nathaniel and Astyr Yvette-Hye. Her mother was half siren and her father pure human. She had one twin brother, Garter. Garter was named for the snake because of the way he was wriggling as he was conceived and Vea because it was her great-grandmother's name. Vea had a pretty normal childhood during elementary school, excluding the incident at six years of age when she changed the color of part of her hair and one iris from brown/black to a bright turquoise hue. For secondary school and up, she was sent to Rynosis. The family moved to London in Vea's first year there, and Garter attended one of the local schools after he refused to go to Rynosis. The reason is still unknown and frankly, Vea didn't care. She was much relieved. In her fourth year, she got to see the first performance of Novelty SplicK at a local talent show. They managed fourth place, due to the fact Yvonne wasn't herself at the time: she'd continued to play even though she had a migraine and eventually collapsed from overexertion. Tim and Astarte married a few weeks later, and had a double wedding with Eli and Luke in which Vea was forced to play to flower girl. She still thinks that someone else could have done it; Garter still makes fun of her because of that. This is her third or fourth year at Whitinghan, the year in which Vea has earned her nickname Eldorado. In the summer before the current school year, Novelty SplicK offered her a place as another guitarist, but Vea denied.

Introduction: The black haired girl swept her hands over the grass, scattering Queen Anne's Lace and dandelion seeds as she went, a thin film of water held under rigid control by Vea's hands as it glided across the ground fleetingly, Vea herself tucked up in a tree; her eyes were half-closed and she swayed from side to side as she practiced her water magics. She was currently due for Power Practice, but lke other classes she thought were completely pointless (e.g. Reading and Geography, both classes the clarevoyant was failing due to her constant tardiness). In her lap was a thick leather-bound textbook that bore the words "Moste Potente Water Magics" on the cover in a beautifully elaborate midnight blue script. It was open to the second chapter: Vea had obviously not gotten far in the book she'd actually snitched from the restricted section in the library. Her telekinesis had helped, of course, but it was still quite different for the normally very open and blunt teenager. That was the problem: Miss Yvette-Hye wasn't used to sneaking, which made it especially hard. Not to mention her problem of swearing in Italian: if any of the other students had heard her swearing in the library, they'd have reported her to Madam Clarke at once, earning a few more choice words from the clarevoyant girl.
Not to mention the trouble she'd be in if anyone happened to find her precariously balanced in the boughs of a scarlet- and yellow-leaved oak. The tree, though old, was not bearing the strain from the girl - despite the fact Vea wasn't at all pudgy, she thought she was and was currently on a diet that excluded chocolate, one of the ebony-haired girl's favorite junk foods - very well; the branches she was sitting on were slowly bending downward. Vea, being of good intuition and quick wits, noticed, if only because a groaning creak told her so.
Her lips pursed and book and blue and silver messenger bag held close to her chest, the water mage and clarevoyant jumped down, landing on her converse-shoed feet knees bent, fortunately preserving the modesty a skirt two inches above her knees usually couldn't offer. The makeshift scythe fell to the ground with a splash as she did so, letting all her rigid control drop back into the depths of her mind - now, it was focused on getting to her next class, Science on the third floor rather than on the sheet of water; Vea picked up the pace, beaded braids and tie turned headscarf waving like pendulums as Vea's gangly figure disappeared behind the next corner, leaving the inner courtyard to desolate silence. The quiet didn't last long, though - a few moments after, several classroom doors nearby opened as a torrent of students burst into the halls and courtyards for their next class, the children's chatter and frolicking echoing across the school long after the students themselves had all disappeared behind classroom doors oncemore.
Concerning Sirens: A siren is not related at all to merpeople, nymphs and/or naiads. Most despise this myth, and can truthfully state that because of it they bear the aforementioned mythical folk a grudge. The eyes of a siren are often varying shades of green, blue or grey. Their tapered ears are akin to those of an elf, with a voice that rival those of merpeople. Scales on the upper torso, wrists, ankles and 'privates' come in various shades of silver and like humans, they have feet. Their feet are sometimes webbed, giving those special few an added advantage in their natural aquatic habitat. Few male sirens are born, maybe one every decade. Fortunately, sirens seem to have a lifespan larger than a human's by about fifty years so mating and breeding usually aren't that big of a problem. Of course, some do choose to marry humans. The only sirens who seem to have the ability to seduce male sailors are the females, seeing as some of the males are mute and can't speak, let alone sing. Their usual diet consists of fish, underwater plants and crustaceans but they do eat a sailor now and then. They find the idea that they are sometimes mistaken for witches who are half bird and half human amusing, to say the least. They are easily offended and sybils can be found among them in larger numbers than among humans. Only pure-blood sirens can become sybils and join the Sea Circle, which is a large school for sybils in the ruins of the underwater city Atlantis. They share a special bond with sea elves, who take on the form of dolphins and whales; as wood elves are to the land, so sea elves to the ocean - the first sea elves were in love with the sea and threw themselves into it so that they might be one with it. Siren deities include Alaris (the Mother Goddess and First Female), Emir (the Father God and First Male), Ulinar (the Seeing God and Patron of all sybils), Lisl (the Temptation Goddess and First Chaos) and Vael (the Truth Goddess and First Balance). Their temples do not require any more sacrafice than time in which you would pray and believe in them. It is said the Gods feed on water, not on bone and flesh. They consider some human customs barbaric, and enact a ritual called Talar - after the Hunting God of the same name - with all living beings they mean to eat that is basically asking their prey to give them permission to eat them. A spiritual feeling is conveyed between hunter and hunted in the moment before the hunted are either let go or killed to be food. All females wear by Alaris and all males by Emir. It is required as part of their youth's education that they learn the laws of their gender's deity representative in Heaven - or, as they call it, the Overrealm. However, as mystical as they like to think their culture sounds, sirens are often over-confident and act with prejudice towards that which they do not understand, such as humans and merpeople. The name Circe is spited by all sirens - I'm sure you know the tale of Odysseus? The sirens that tempted him on his way home from war were trapped on that small rock because they had wronged the goddess. To this day, sirens still think that it wasn't their fault and that Circe did it out of mere spite.
